El Médano, Tenerife – 30/06/25
The 2025 edition of King of El Médano concluded successfully. This sporting event, entirely dedicated to the Big Air kitesurfing discipline, brought life to El Médano beach, drawing strong participation from 42 riders.
Organized by Sognicanarias Watersports together with El Médano Kite Club, the event relied on the Surfr.app to measure, in real time, the highest jump recorded by each athlete.
There was strong participation from riders not only from El Médano, but also from all over the island and other areas of the Canary Islands. The event fostered an inclusive and engaging environment, enhancing local talent and strengthening the bond between all riders.
The public also responded enthusiastically, attending the competitions and the awards ceremony with visible interest and support.
A solid network of sponsors and partners
The event’s success was largely due to the active support of numerous sponsors who contributed concretely to the initiative. Notable contributions include:
-
The logistical and hospitality support of PlayaSurf, which provided a paella for all participants and hosted a pleasant evening gathering at the hotel.
-
The significant contribution of DMC Group, Eleveight Kites, and Azulkiteboarding, who supported the event with professionalism and consistent presence.
-
The presence of other local and national sponsors who provided materials, prizes, services, and visibility, creating a high-level collaborative atmosphere:
Mar de Fondo, Minimarket La Duna, Koh Sunglasses, Hotel Lumin, Mad For Waves.
Ideal conditions and sporting spirit
Weather conditions were ideal throughout the competition, with steady winds allowing riders to perform at their best. The jump tracking system recorded remarkable performances, with spectacular jumps visible from the shore, to the delight of the crowd.
Next edition confirmed
Given the excellent outcome, the next King of El Médano is already confirmed for 2026. The organizers are evaluating possible updates to the format.
Official dates, potential new categories, and the updated rules will be published in the coming months. All those who participated—and those who missed it—are encouraged to stay informed through the official Sognicanarias Watersports channels.
Conclusion
The King/Queen of El Médano 2025 successfully combined sporting competition with community spirit, establishing itself as a reference event for kitesurfing in the Canary Islands. The synergy between athletes, sponsors, organizers, and the public proved that it is possible to build an authentic, engaging, and professional event rooted in local talent and resources.
